PSU

happy sunday all!! i missed church again (and im not proud of it!!). i stayed up till 5am & i overslept.  why, because of my pc!!

i've been using my pc for almost 2 years. most of the parts is getting rusty & dusty. yesterday, i am planning to replace the main casing (housing), & CPU fan. i do some major cleanup, get rid of the dusty parts, its a complete overhaul.

after dismantling every 'living' parts of pc from the old casing, i transfer it into new casing bit-by-bit. just want to make it neat & tide up. so till, roughly 98% of the process, i plug in the power cord, i press the power button & walla!! its ON..till a message appear, '..no bootable device..' damn, what the heck!!

i was thinking it was my HDD, then i notice my CDROM is not working as well!! i start to cursing myself, what went wrong? i dismantle everything  & reinstall all the peripherals, cards, ram & re-plug the power. again, no bootable device error!!

so, my last resort is gather it back to its old configuration & the result, its ON, i can boot to windows!! so i started to think that is caused by the PSU (power supply unit). since the new CPU fan is big (additional 3 BIG ventilation fan), it draw huge amount of power from the PSU compare to old CPU fan. hence, there is not enough power to supply for HDD & CDROM.

damn, i never thought of that. i thought the current 500W PSU can handle the system, but what i didnt realized is the power efficiency. the rating power maybe high, but efficiency maybe not the same as the rating. so today my mission is hunting for cheap but high rated power with good efficiency distribution. sigh..

anyway, ever wonder what my system is :

3.40GHz Processor
4GB DDR2 RAM
512MB GPU
1TB HDD

once im done, i'll post some picture of my system!!
